A “WR” Day

In wedding messsage board lingo, WR stands for “wedding related.” Today was WR in a huge way. It started with a trip to “Ye Olde Spirits Shoppe” (Glen is shuddering to think that we’re giving money to a store that spells this way). There I ensured that we would not be having a dry wedding. Now we have to pick our beers. Sam Adams, Heineken and Amstel Light are the front runners, with the caveat being that all beers in glass bottles must be poured into plastic cups first (Ostertag rules).
Then we were off to the courthouse, Katie’s stellar Frederick navigation skills leading the way. Here we got the most important piece of paper for our wedding (a bargain at only $60), our marriage license. I laughed when she asked me if we were related, despite the fact I knew the quesiton was coming. It even says on the license “Relation by blood or by marriage: NONE”.
Next on the list: meeting with the organist to hear some music. Again, Katie’s supreme knowledge of Frederick comes through, while I say, “Where are we going?”. The organist is really nice, fun, and talented. I picked my processional, and it is NOT “Here Comes the Bride.” It’s “Rigaudon”, and when I was listening to it, I was sure I’d feel like a queen walking down the aisle to it.
Final stop of the day: the seamstress, who continues to make improvements to my dress. During this stop, the very important decision was made that I will not be wearing a certain foundation garment that I never in my whole life thought I could go without. Thankfully, the dress has enough support built in. I also learned that one of my, um, attributes, is larger than the other. Jenni will be pleased.
Well, that’s it! Tommorrow, I meet with the florist and the reception site coordinator. Then, I get to make the seating plan. Any special requests? Speak up now!

Sam Adams, but not Sam Adams Oktoberfest. That stuff tastes like mud. Oh, and the reason Ostertag requires glass bottles to be poured into cups might be related to a wedding I attended there two years ago. Lets just say some of the younger guests got a bit… rowdy.

Hell yeah with the rowdiness! Definitely seat me near Kanishka.
Someone please help me, I’m watching Lifetime movies….

I vote with Kanishka (minus the firsthand rowdy Ostertag experience).

Full disclosure: yes, I did get a little rowdy the last time I was at Ostertag. However, the trouble came from elsewhere–a bunch of my younger sisters friends getting really drunk and stumbling around, culminating with one 15 year old falling down on a beer bottle and slicing open his suit (and part of his arm). His mom did not think it funny, but I found it endlessly amusing.
Still, I have no objections to being seated next to Em!

Good to know, since my date is a dumbass and a) is going to leave early to drive back to New York because he didn’t bother to ask for Monday off work despite A YEAR of plan-ahead time, and b) wouldn’t dance with me if he stayed anyway. Bring on the open bar!
Comment from Glen on 6 Oct. 2003, 8:16 pm :
Hey Emily, can you give Rachel and me some emergency, last-minute dancing lessons?

I can’t stop laughing here….

Whoops, sorry Gwendolyn–missed that last post! I offered to Rach!
