Bidness

Thanksgiving recap: family visited, wainscoting was finished, corn pudding and jello cranberry were served. It was good.

I am pleased to report that were were present at the Assembly Hall tonight to watch Maryland take care of business against Illinois. Two red shirts in a sea of orange, we were.

Also, after three years of review, I now believe Hey Ya to be the greatest pop song ever written. Exhibit B:

Can I please have your corn pudding recipe? Also, well played, oh you lonely red-shirts! We were with you in spirit.

  2. Comment from Angela on 29 Nov. 2006, 1:04 pm :

    1) Martha Stewart wanted me to tell you how proud she is of your wainscoting project. It’s a good thing, she says and I say it’s beautiful. Now I know who to call for a project in my future house!

    2) Corn pudding!! I love that stuff. Was “jello cranberry” in the shape of the United States of America?

    3) I agree that Hey Ya IS the greatest pop song ever written.

  3. Comment from Glen on 29 Nov. 2006, 8:17 pm :

Apparently I omitted key food details. The cranberry jello was cylindrical, as it comes from a can. It remains my favorite Thansgiving staple. Rachel or my mom can supply the recipe for corn pudding, my second-favorite Thanksgiving staple.

That is one serious sea of orange. I am impressed by the Terp-red dining room and by the wainscoting!

Decoration foul

CHAMPAIGN, Il., Nov. 10 — Christmas decorations have appeared in the yard across the street. Contents include reindeer, a sleigh, red bows, icicle lights, and some sort of wintery thing on the front porch. In protest, our yard has sprouted a scarecrow and a bale of hay. Seriously, it’s not even Thansgiving yet.

  1. Comment from Maggie on 10 Nov. 2006, 7:17 pm :

The Decemberists were here and fantastic. Hope that they give as good a show tomorrow!!

  2. Comment from Maggie on 10 Nov. 2006, 7:19 pm :

Also - you have inspired me to begin looking for dog #2. Plus, Molly is lonely. What do y’all think of Winston?

  3. Comment from Glen on 11 Nov. 2006, 10:12 am :

Winston looks very nice, but are you looking for a high-energy dog? Indy and Annie have proven that dogs with equal energy levels will get along well (I don’t know Molly’s energy state).

  4. Comment from Maggie on 11 Nov. 2006, 11:10 am :

Heh. Molly also came defined as a high energy dog, which is pretty accurate, and responsible for the loss of a decent amount of waistline (so, yay!). We shall see, though - there definitely has to be a preliminary meet and greet, because she gets so excited about playing with other dogs that it actually weirds a few out. No acutal emailing/calling until January, once I’ve stopped travelling quite so much for weddings and wedding-related bacchanalia and turkeys and christmases and new years. Starting after Jan. 1, all the excitement happens when people come to visit me - which will make life easier in the “welcome, new dog” realm. (HINT!) (Also - are you all coming to MD for Thanksgiving?)

  5. Comment from Glen on 12 Nov. 2006, 7:12 pm :

Then a high-energy dog it is. As long as you don’t end up on an episode of the Dog Whisperer, I’m sure it will work out fine.

We’re not coming to MD for Thanksgiving, but perhaps you can convince us to come down there for Mardi Gras and meet both dogs…

  6. Comment from Maggie on 15 Nov. 2006, 12:45 pm :

You should totally come - you’ll be co-visiting if you come either weekend, which is completely cool - or come and stay just the pair of you for the parades on the W and Th before. Follow the link for the schedule.

Alternatively - it looks like I’m going to be riding on the first float of the Old Metairie St. Patrick’s Day parade, and there are other spots available, if you wanted to come and actually be IN a parade - it’s the weekend of March 10-11th.

  7. Comment from Maggie on 15 Nov. 2006, 12:48 pm :

    Whoops. There’s the link.

And also, there’s Jazz Fest, which is incredible in a completely different way. This year it’s April 27-29 and May 4-6….

Awkward

Man at front door: Hello, is your mom or dad around?
Me: Uh, this is my house.
Man at front door: Oh, okay. You look so young, I just figured [you wouldn’t be interested in purchasing the house I am selling up the street.]

I suppose there will come an age when I would take that as a compliment.

  1. Comment from Unit on 4 Nov. 2006, 2:18 pm :

That is correct! That age will come too soon.

  2. Comment from Angela on 7 Nov. 2006, 11:06 am :

Hahahahahahaha. That’s hilarious. Please don’t buy any more property in IL.

    HEY.

Were you in Maryland last weekend?? Hmmm??

  3. Comment from Angela on 7 Nov. 2006, 11:07 am :

oh, and do you have a Borat review for us? you have to put that up now before I ask you for the Decemberists review and then it allllll snowballs on you.

  4. Comment from Glen on 7 Nov. 2006, 2:48 pm :

Sadly, I was unable to make it to Maryland last weekend. Had I gone, you would have known about it.

Borat was amazing, and much more intense than I had expected. About 20 people walked out on a scene that made me laugh so hard I nearly threw up. It was well worth the $6.50.

  5. Comment from Angela on 9 Nov. 2006, 10:33 am :

Thank you Glen. I wasn’t going to see Borat but now with your stories of near vomiting, I think I will.

BTW, I spy the return of gingerbread lattes in holiday cups at Starbucks. Hurrah!

  6. Comment from Glen on 9 Nov. 2006, 11:23 am :

Be aware that Borat is very, very offensive, but in such an over-the-top way as to be unoffensive.

  7. Comment from Glen on 12 Nov. 2006, 7:17 pm :

You have not yet asked for a Decemberists review, but here it is anyway: They were fantastic (as always), and I pity the fool who missed them in DC!

  8. Comment from Angela on 12 Nov. 2006, 8:47 pm :

Yeah, I totally dropped the ball AGAIN on The Decemberists. We’re hoping for another Colin Meloy tour in January to make up for it…but I’m afraid that their new label might change things…blah.

    I love their new album.
