All four readers appear to be getting restless despite the regular dog photos, so it’s time for an update. I’m too tired for a clever narrative, so you’ll have to settle for a factual accounting of the events since Nov. 8th.

1) Went to Phoenix for work to deal with a certain federal agency that administers the aviation industry. If I ever so much as imply that I might one day consider applying to work for this agency, please put me out of my misery. Thanks in part to frivolous industry lawsuits, this agency’s bureaucracy knows no bounds. And the European version is worse.

2) Entertained the parents during Thanksgiving week and drowned my government-induced frustrations in corn pudding. After Thanksgiving, cut down a perfectly healthy fir tree for the living room.

3) Decorated for Christmas. Our external trimmings are festive, but not quite inflatable-Santa-in-the-front-yard festive (although I secretly like those). We have 1.5″ red, white and green lights all over the place, providing more than enough light to drown out the neighbors’ classy wreath and one strand of miniature white lights. Some of this unbridled festivity may stem from my constant struggle against white lights while growing up. By parental mandate, our tree was all-white on alternating years, and I believe it has been all-white every year since I left for college.

4) After four years, finally a true Midwestern winter! Indiana Jones does not care for zero degrees and blowing snow, but I say he’s the one who refuses to wear a sweater.

5) Attended first-ever (for me) company Christmas party. Verdict: Too few drunken coworkers (zero, by my count), too many akward moments from the hired comedian, who attempted too many blue jokes in a red room (ixnay on the esusjay okesjay…). It was painful, even if I was laughing nervously on the inside.

6) Have become belatedly addicted to Six Feet Under. We’re on Season 3, so no spoiler comments please.

Ah, I feel much better now. I was beginning to think you guys were just a figment of my imagination. When is the next MD trip?

  2. Comment from Maggie on 15 Dec. 2005, 9:58 am :

What Em said! And where would you like a package-ful of Christmas nonsense sent - I’m mailing tomorrow. Should it go to IL, of c/o somebody’s parents in MD?

  3. Comment from Glen on 15 Dec. 2005, 5:47 pm :

We are going to Maryland on the 23rd, 3 animals in tow. Any packages should probably be sent to Rachel’s mom’s house, since we are staying there. If the package is for the cats, then send it to my parents’ house.

  4. Comment from Angela on 15 Dec. 2005, 7:12 pm :

if the package is for the cats?? what? you make no sense man. but I am looking forward to seeing you and Rachel and Otto and Lili and Indiana v. soon. YAY!!!! for updates and Christmas homecomings and everything!

Also, I heart Six Feet Under. It’s super good.

  5. Comment from Katie on 18 Dec. 2005, 11:56 am :

Speaking of cats… they’ve been drowned out by the overflow of dog pictures… Indy needs to take a back seat while you throw more than a few cat pictures our way.

  6. Comment from Glen on 18 Dec. 2005, 12:35 pm :

Speaking of cats… they may get to remain in Champaign this year. This will be our Christmas gift to them.

  7. Comment from Angela on 18 Dec. 2005, 7:32 pm :

    :-O

They can’t stay at home alone! what kind of parents ARE YOU? I’m appalled.

  8. Comment from Glen on 18 Dec. 2005, 8:02 pm :

They will be fed and watered by our friends, don’t worry. Trust me, they’ll like it better than 24 hours trapped in a car with a dog and 3 weeks trapped in a house with 2 other cats.

  9. Comment from Katie on 21 Dec. 2005, 4:40 am :

So I suspect this means any packages for the cats should be delivered to Champaign then. ;)

  10. Comment from DAD on 21 Dec. 2005, 12:30 pm :

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Glen!

  11. Comment from Em on 22 Dec. 2005, 7:55 am :

I second the Happy Birthday motion!

  12. Comment from Glen on 22 Dec. 2005, 12:55 pm :

    The motion carries.
