Things I have failed to post about in the past month: Drove to Maryland with cats, drove to lake with cats, drove back to Maryland with cats, saw many people in Maryland, attended Big Fat Greek wedding, drove back to Illinois with cats, found out car dealer scammed us on service plan, drove up to Chicago to get refund on service plan (successful trip, but still making my blood boil), helped friends move into house, today helping friends build deck on house (my hibernating power tools are excited).

In other news, our Flügtag contraption is coming right along. Unlike many a hairbrained college scheme, this project is actually getting built. Come see us in Cleveland next month.

As those of you who have seen me in the past month are no doubt already aware, I love the new car. Allow me to pontificate on the wonders of the TDI diesel engine…

Ahem….methinks you have been home long enough to have posted some wedding pics!

  2. Comment from Angela on 26 Jul. 2004, 8:37 am :

I forget now. How does a diesel engine work?

  3. Comment from Glen on 26 Jul. 2004, 6:57 pm :

Em: You’re right. I’ll get right on it, as soon as I can locate my camera under the pile of crap on my desk. First task: clean desk.

Angela: As homework, you must read www.tdiclub.com in its entirety.

    I won’t do my homework until I see pictures! I won’t.

    Hello,
You have no idea who this is, but I was trying to show some of my friends of my family’s propery at Lake Waynewood which might be online and came across you. Just wondering if you have family property there as well and if our families might be acquainted.

  6. Comment from Tracy Hall on 8 Mar. 2005, 6:46 pm :

Sorry, that should have read ‘photos of my family’s property.’ You’d think I taught English or something.

Hi, feel free to email me (I just added my address to the bottom of the page).

Bear-proof

Many thanks to Mike and Angela for sticking it out for two nights of backpacking in Olympic National Park over the Fourth. Here we are, having just summitted Mt. Olympus:

Okay, we actually hiked only five miles in on the Hoh River Trail, but surely we would have made the other 20 miles had we been equipped with crampons, ice axes and several Codeine injections for our feet. A good time was had by all, and despite our modest progress, I think Ranger Bill at the WIC would have been proud. What’s more, we made it back in time for an awesome fireworks show in Seattle. As it turns out, big-city fireworks are superior to those in rural Pennsylvania. We saw no bears or mountain lions on our trip (in hindsight, I am slightly disappointed in the lack of bear sightings), but Angela almost got trampled by some Roosevelt Elk. She still doesn’t believe me. We also saw lots of slugs.

Now I want to go backpacking in Alaska. With a guide, of course. In the meantime, it’s off to Lake Waynewood. Maybe I will see a bear there.

Photos from our trip will be online shortly.

    Photos are up.

Oh dear! I look horrible in that photo. I would be really upset if I were Vanity Smurf. Those elk were super gentle, friendly elk, they weren’t going to trample me! I’m still really amazed at how we spotted such elusive creatures.

Excuse me? Where was your lovely wife?

  4. Comment from Lovely Wife on 8 Jul. 2004, 9:41 pm :

I could not take any more time off of working on my research this summer, as I would like to complete my PhD within the next 15 years. While my darling husband wanted me to join him, I declined.

    What she said.

That backpack really isn’t flattering to one’s dairy towers….in fact, it’s more flattening than flattering.

Glen failed to post one of the more interesting pictures (linked).
