Spring Break wooooo!

The Illinois winter has been dragging on with its 38-degree temperatures, so we traveled to Florida this past week. I had some simulators to tinker with, while Rachel had some relaxing to do. Bike Week, which was wrapping up as we arrived, turned out to be quite an event. We passed thousands of bikes and trailers on our way down from Jacksonville, with Rachel watching like a hawk for the Orange County Choppers crew. Her vigilance paid off as we cruised like outlaws in our 2004 Camry — down the A1A, over the Intercoastal and inadvertantly past a pro-topless demonstration — and spotted the OCC display in the middle of biker central. The trailers were difficult to spot amid the throngs of OCC-merchandise-wearing bikers, but there they were, just like on TV. Sadly, there were no Teuttles or Spider Bikes to be seen.
That was Sunday. Or Monday, the entire town switched into Spring Break mode with raw efficiency. Signs that had read “Welcome Bikers!” now read “Welcome Breakers!”, and the breakers bought as many OCC shirts as the bikers. Instead of the usual airport Courtyard by Marriott (booked solid), the company put me up in a beachside Holiday Inn, which was essentially a dorm. Drunken frat brothers wandered the halls with red cups, and Rachel had trouble concentrating on her homework due to a massive Trojan-sponsored party in the hotel next-door. It was an interesting business trip. Also, many thanks to Rachel’s grandparents for a relaxing day away from Spring Break on Tuesday.

Lucky for you! The only thing I got out of our spring break was not having class on Wednesday night. Whoohoo. Today I am battling spam. Someone PLEASE tell me why they must include things like pqasdoiwndl alzkjzy lkjbow wneiboe in their emails about increasing my weiner size! The weiner part is bad enough, without having the nonsense words.

The random words and letters are used to elude spam filters. Interestingly, some people are now interpreting the random word groups as poetry (I head about a book that is due out soon). Poetry is certainly not the intent.

How do random words elude spam filters? The random words ARE spam! Why can’t I configure my spam filter to remove all emails with sd;jfpa nalkwoihjg diuboe in them? Too many permutations of random letter combinations?

I am not a spam scientist, but I do know that the new Outlook does an excellent job of filtering spam.

Spam scientist, eh? That should be a new graduate program. Hood can be the pioneers!

My new Outlook asks me daily if I want to turn my rod into a monster.

My Outlook implores me to “enlarge it.”

Eudora tells me how I can really lay the PIPE into her.

Hmm. Did you turn on the spam filtering options? It works for me.
Comment from Em on 18 Mar. 2004, 8:07 am :
Unfortunately, since our students choose to create email addresses such as pussy22@aol.com and hotfieldhockeytits@hotmail.com, we can’t necessarily filter on such words, or we won’t get our students’ emails. Tragic, really.
Comment from Katie on 18 Mar. 2004, 11:11 am :
So many unsolicited manuscripts get tagged as spam that I can’t filter either. I wish we could put the “check if you’re a human” box on our website.
