More horse shampoo

Posted by Glen in on 31 Jan. 2003, 5:59 pm

Today was a little slow, so I asked Rachel what to write on my blog. “You registered your car,” she said. As exciting as my new “01-04″ license plate sticker may be, it doesn’t warrant more than these here two sentences. Instead, here’s a monthly roundup of some of the more interesting search terms that led people to my site last month, as reported by my ISP. I’m probably perpetuating the “bag balm for humans” search by reporting it here.

terpidiots (6 searches)
sorority girls illinois (3 searches)
bag balm for humans (3 searches)
horse shampoo for women (2 searches)
evening dresses with rhinestones for church
bird flight v formation

I think we can see what makes the Internet go ’round. Or not.

Heat wave

The trouble with updating my blog every day, is that Champaign isn’t the most happening place in the midwest. Today our precious few inches of snow are quickly melting away, making me nostalgic for the sub-zero days of yesterweek. I say, if it’s going to be winter, 35 degrees is totally unacceptable. In other news, the Illinois Student Government passed an anti-war resolution yesterday, and now I feel old and cynical just for having mentioned it.

Is anyone else a little creeped out by the MSN butterfly guy? I guess he’s supposed to represent the smart, bespectacled software engineers at Microsoft who are developing technologies to protect our children, but he comes across as some sort of creepy internet stalker. Who wears a butterfly suit, honestly?

So as not to appear too crotchety, I will close with something a little more upbeat. Here’s a picture of a little baby penguin (awwww!).

  1. Comment from Rachel on 30 Jan. 2003, 2:14 pm :

I second the awwww….. I just love baby animals.

  2. Comment from Angela on 30 Jan. 2003, 5:40 pm :

Royela’s favorite animal is a penguin and she has a stuffed penguin that looks just like that baby one. His name is Zwaddles.

  3. Comment from lurker on 31 Jan. 2003, 7:10 am :

    Zwaddles!!!

  4. Comment from Glen on 31 Jan. 2003, 12:21 pm :

The correct pronunciation of “Zwaddles” continues to elude me.

All the little things

Wedding planning is full of picking and choosing tiny little things. Right now, I’m working on wedding favors. The options are endless! We could do a “Spoonful of Kisses from the Mr. and Mrs.”, votive candles, daisy seeds… The list goes on and on. A tiny little favor that no one will remember, yet hours and hours of my brain power has been devoted to picking one out. Such is wedding planning. The current front runner is yellow and white m&m’s packaged in glassine envelopes.

  1. Comment from Katie on 30 Jan. 2003, 7:43 am :

I vote you give everyone a shot of your favorite alcohols in a daisy decorated shot glass. Now that’s something people will enjoy.

  2. Comment from Kanishka on 30 Jan. 2003, 7:53 am :

I was always a fan of having disposable cameras at every table. Then you can have a “best picture” contest after the wedding.

  3. Comment from your sister on 30 Jan. 2003, 10:27 am :

You guys are SO much more organized than we are. Our wedding is in slightly over 4 months, and we have not yet pondered the endless mystery of favors. I am busy dueling with the dress shop and the invitation company, both of which have screwed up royally in the past week.

  4. Comment from your sister on 30 Jan. 2003, 10:33 am :

AH HAAAAAA!!!! Glen, you sneaky little devil, you!! I had NO IDEA that you had a quasi-girlfriend (i.e. Rachel) in SIXTH grade! I just read Rachel’s excellent and HIGHLY informative story. I thought you didn’t become a ladies’ man until 11th grade, when you had your big first date with Rachel. Why would you EVER have concealed from your big sister the fact that you were “going” with someone in 6th grade? Did you think I would tease you or something? Well, prepare, buddy boy, because retroactive teasing is coming your way. I missed out on so many prime opportunities all those years ago.
Nahhhhh, just kidding. Rachel, I love that “Our Story” you wrote– it’s very sweet!

  5. Comment from Em on 30 Jan. 2003, 11:58 am :

The Story is so cute! My favorite part would be the end, where the Scrabble game is vaguely described as “abandoned”….

  6. Comment from jane on 30 Jan. 2003, 7:56 pm :

don’t sell yourself short on the wedding favors, i always remember them, and don’t worry I’m sure you’ll find the perfect cute and creative thing to remember your wedding by!

  7. Comment from Angela on 31 Jan. 2003, 3:49 pm :

This new redesign and the addition of the wedding site is nice and everything, but it doesn’t look like there’s room for my javascript countdown to the wedding feature. Where o where is my javascript?!

  8. Comment from Glen on 31 Jan. 2003, 5:28 pm :

Oh, how could I forget the countdown?! Coming right up!

  9. Comment from Angela on 3 Feb. 2003, 9:13 am :

Nono, it’s supposed to look like this. Where’s my applet, yo?

  10. Comment from Joy on 3 Feb. 2003, 10:49 am :

Rachael, Jim always teases me about this—when I went to pick out bridesmaid gifts I charged them to his account. He didn’t find out until after we were married. I’m still hiding things but he always finds out somehow.

  11. Comment from Glen on 3 Feb. 2003, 7:43 pm :

Rachel (one a), Rachel, Rachel! :)

Confessions from Reality

Posted by Glen in on 28 Jan. 2003, 11:11 am

I have a confession to make: Rachel and I have been watching Joe Millionaire. We even have our favorites picked out (Rachel: Zora, Me: It’s a secret). They’re both still in the running. At this point, I should ramble on about how insipid the show is and how it’s like watching a train wreck (just can’t turn away, yadda yadaa), but every other essay on reality television has already done that for me. The point is that I used to pride myself on never having watched so much as an episode of Survivor, and now I’ve been reduced to watching subtitled makeout scenes.

Perhaps as punishment, but more likely the result of my newfound taste for lunch, I’ve managed to gain five pounds over the last two weeks. For me, that’s a real accomplishment. I’m even using my webbed belt on a new setting.

Cat update: Lili is walking back and forth on my keyboard, rubbing on the corner of the screen and greatly infedfjh;dfgd; gresfdsjfl;p greatly interfering with my ability to type.

  1. Comment from Katie on 28 Jan. 2003, 12:37 pm :

I watched that show for the first time last night. The slurping and the gulping was a bit much, but she’s my favorite. I want Melissa gone… and tell Rachel that Zora is too goody goody, just like her!

  2. Comment from Rachel on 28 Jan. 2003, 1:13 pm :

Zora rocks! (This is so sad, sigh….)

  3. Comment from The Real Angela on 28 Jan. 2003, 1:26 pm :

But Zora has “baggage.” I’m betting he’ll end up picking the curly-haired Melissa even though she’s whiny and petulant. My roommate Courtney said she read in the National Inquirer that he really marries Zora!

  4. Comment from jane. on 28 Jan. 2003, 1:48 pm :

i feel terrible for zora, because he is a no brain dunderhead. if she did end up getting with him and he told her he was lying, she seems like she would be crushed.
does anyone else think that blonde girl looks like the blonde girl from sorority life? I am the reluctant queen of reality tv.

  5. Comment from Glen on 28 Jan. 2003, 6:15 pm :

I’m alarmed that you were even able to make that comparison, Jane.

  6. Comment from your sister on 30 Jan. 2003, 10:35 am :

    Zora is my favorite.
Okay, who DOESN’T watch this show? Anyone? Anyone? Fess up.

  7. Comment from EYC on 30 Jan. 2003, 1:37 pm :

I am amazed that so many people watch it - I for one do not. I’m actually afraid that I’d lose too much respect for women if I watched it. ‘course, the same could be said for men on the Bachelorette… perhaps I’m just going to lose respect for everryone?!?! Nah…. I just thing ‘Reality’ shows don’t really exist anymore. Put a camera on and EVERYONE’s an actor. You think Lili and Otto act the same when Glen’s taking pics or not???

  8. Comment from Joy on 3 Feb. 2003, 11:05 am :

Rachael and Glen—watch the Bachorlette on Wednesday—it’s more realistic—the guys seem more down to earth. I’m with you Rachael—I like Zoro. Melissa is just a phony.

This morning my math professor, surely echoing some great philosopher before him, asked, do we invent theorems, or do we discover them? Discuss.

I’m making more of an effort to update my blog on a regular basis, pandering to our insatiable appetite for news and favoring quantity over quality. Hence, today’s update. If anyone would prefer that I return to a once-per-week schedule of cat updates, speak now.

  1. Comment from Em on 27 Jan. 2003, 1:58 pm :

Being catless, I vote for at least weekly reports on your feline companions.

  2. Comment from Kanishka on 27 Jan. 2003, 4:14 pm :

What kind of theorem? If its a unit-less theorem (F=MA is one, I think) then we discover them, I think. Then again, this is that new-fangled “science” stuff I’m no longer comfortable with.

  3. Comment from Glen on 27 Jan. 2003, 5:50 pm :

Newton’s second law is just that (a law), but I otherwise agree. My hard-nosed physics professor from freshman year might take issue your claim, even if “Newton II” were actually a theorem. F only equals ma in the case of constant mass — otherwise, F is simply equal to dp/dt. But I digress.

  4. Comment from Glen on 27 Jan. 2003, 5:54 pm :

More cat updates for catless readers? Not a problem.

  5. Comment from your sister on 28 Jan. 2003, 8:58 am :

I like your new design! Very nice!

  6. Comment from Katie on 28 Jan. 2003, 12:35 pm :

More cat updates for cat fanatics!! CATS CATS CATS and MORE CATS!!!

  7. Comment from Glen on 28 Jan. 2003, 12:45 pm :

Sorry, I must show some restraint. There will be a limit of one cat update per week. I am not a cat lady.
